Exterior remodeling we take on

Siding and stucco. Repair and replacement, including the flashing and weather barrier behind it. Most stucco failures we are called to are not stucco failures at all — they are water getting in at a penetration or a transition that was never detailed properly.

Exterior painting and finishes. Preparation is the whole job. Sun exposure here is punishing on south and west elevations, and a finish applied over a surface that was not properly prepared will show it first on those faces.

Windows and doors. Replacement with attention to how the opening is flashed and sealed, because that junction is where water most often finds its way behind the cladding.

Trim, fascia and detailing. The elements that take the most weather and are most often patched rather than resolved.

What the climate does

Three things drive most exterior wear in San Diego County.

Ultraviolet exposure breaks down finishes and fades colour, and it does so unevenly — south and west elevations will always weather ahead of the rest of the house.

Salt air reaches considerably further inland than people expect, and it is hard on metal: fasteners, flashing, hardware and fixings.

The marine layer wets surfaces overnight and the afternoon dries them. That repeated cycle drives movement in timber and opens joints over time, which is why detailing at transitions matters more here than the material choice does.

Looking before specifying

We would rather understand why something failed than replace it and wait for the same thing to happen again. Where a wall is staining, trim is rotting, or paint is lifting in one area and not another, there is usually a reason upstream — a missing kickout, a transition without flashing, water directed toward the wall instead of away from it.

Finding that first is what makes the finished work last.
