Building in Carmel Valley
Carmel Valley is largely newer construction, much of it built as planned communities. That changes the character of the work compared with older parts of the county.
Walls tend to be square, framing tends to be consistent, and what is behind them is usually what you would expect. Fewer surprises when the walls open. The projects here are less about correcting past work and more about updating homes that were built to a builder-grade standard and are ready for something better.
That typically means kitchens: replacing original cabinetry with something properly fitted, reworking an island that was sized for the plan rather than the room, and adding the lighting layers that production builds rarely include. Bathrooms follow a similar pattern — removing a tub nobody uses in favour of a larger shower, and replacing surfaces chosen for speed of construction rather than longevity.
Outdoor space is the other common project. Many Carmel Valley yards were handed over as blank rectangles, and pavers, turf, decks and patio covers turn them into rooms.
